Short: VHQ MPEG audio encoder (68k/PPC) Author: kakace@pacwan.fr (Didier Levet) Uploader: kakace pacwan fr (Didier Levet) Type: mus/misc Version: 1.8g Requires: AmigaOS 2.0+ Architecture: m68k-amigaos; ppc-warpup Pegase v1.86, 23/9/2000 Pegase is a highly optimized MPEG audio encoder, based upon the ISO/MPEG source code. ================================================= PEGASE DOESN'T SUPPORT LAYER 3, AND WILL NEVER DO ================================================= But before complaining about that, try the layer 2 by yourself. It is able to compete with Layer 3 (mp3) now, but the encoded files remain a bit larger (+25%, because you still have to use a bitrate greater or equal to 160 kbits/s). Features : - MPEG-1 Layer 1/Layer 2 encoding. - Accept AIFF, MAUD, WAV, CDDA and RAW files (16 bits samples only). - Really Faaaaast (2:1 ratio with a 68060/50). - Very high quality encoding, which make layer 2 as good as layer 3 as long as you use a decent bitrate (>= 160 kbits/s). - Batch mode (can encode multiple files in one go). Missing : - Layer 3. - MPEG-2 support. - Psycho-analyzer #1. - 8-bit samples support. - Resampling. Requirements : - AmigaOS 2.0 or better. - 68030/68RC040/68RC060 or a PPC 603/604e (WarpOS only). Distribution : - EMail-ware. News : - Layer 1 snr and quantization tables have been fixed (long standing bug). - Little speedup due to a reduced attenuation limit in the spreading function. - The absolute threshold tables have been changed again. - Little modification on the scale factors select information pattern in order to match more closely the subband level in some cases. All in all, this version should be the best release so far...
