Short: ID3 tag editor for MP3 files Author: jPV^RNO Uploader: jpv morphos-user com (jPV^RNO) Type: mus/misc Version: 1.1 Architecture: ppc-morphos ABOUT ----- RNOTags is an advanced GUI based ID3 tag editor for MP3 files. FEATURES -------- - Reads v1.0, v1.1, Enhanced (v1+), v2.2.0, v2.3.0, and v2.4.0 tags - Can write v1.1, v2.3.0, and v2.4.0 tags, and convert between them - Can remove all kinds of tags - Recognises all 100+ ID3v2 frames - Can edit and create 60+ text based ID3v2 frames - Can attach pictures to MP3 files, and extract them from MP3 files - Has a "filename sniffer" to create tags from filenames - Caches input data of saved files for quick pasting to other files - Can copy selected frames to other files, or copy data between v1 and v2 tags INSTALLATION ------------ Copy the whole directory anywhere you want and just launch the program. USAGE NOTES ----------- The program offers expert level editing options for ID3v2 frames, please read the provided quick help (MUI pop-up help or click on the "?" button) if you are unsure of the data format, and parameters you should enter in any frame. If you want the widest compatibility with all operating systems and programs, the safest option is to write tags as ID3v2.3.0 (+ ID3v1.1) without unsyncing. COMMAND LINE OPTIONS AND ICON TOOLTYPES --------------------------------------- RNOTags uses non-standard command line arguments. Arguments must be given in the form of (note the "-" prefix): -argument parameter Allowed arguments: -file . . . - Opens a file at startup -dir . . . . - Opens files from a directory at startup -defdir . . - Sets the initial directory to open files Example: RNOTags -dir "Work:MP3/Encodings/NewAlbum" The same arguments can be used as icon tooltypes, but by omitting the "-" prefix. Examples: DEFDIR=Work:MP3/Encodings SETTINGS -------- Settings are found in the program's pull-down menu and they will be saved to the ENVARC:Hollywood/com.wmhost.jpv.rnotags file. Terminated strings (v2.3.0) - Null terminated text strings in v2.3.0 tags *) Terminated strings (v2.4.0) - Null terminated text strings in v2.4.0 tags *) Save . . . . . . . . . . . - Saves the settings and the sniff pattern *) ID3v2.x specifications aren't too clear if text strings are required to be null terminated or not, in fact they offer contradicting details. However, it's unlikely to cause issues with null termination enabled, but in practise most v2.3.0 widely distributed files seem not to have any null termination, but about 50% of v2.4.0 files do have null termination. So, based on this, default settings are set to enable terminated strings with v2.4.0 tags, but disable them with v2.3.0 tags. It's up to you, a user, if you want to change this behaviour. BTW. Windows 10 seems to write tags without any termination, but iTunes writes tags with it. Also, Windows File Explorer had/has problems reading tags without termination with certain text encoding formats, so uh? :) RESTRICTIONS ------------ These may or may not change in future versions, no promises. - Writes in ISO-8859-1 only - Can't edit compressed or encrypted frames - Frame grouping is preserved, but can't be altered or viewed - Doesn't support or preserve extended header features HISTORY ------- Version 1.1: - Added balance object in the GUI - Sniffer didn't create new ID3v1 tags - Fixed sniff patterns starting with the ":" character - Other minor fixes WEB --- - Please visit http://jpv.wmhost.com/jpv_software/ for screenshots, support, donations, and other software - This program is made with Hollywood: http://www.hollywood-mal.com/ THANKS TO --------- - Neil Pearson for testing and proof-reading - Densho/RNO for the logo DISCLAIMER ---------- This software is made available to you as DONATIONWARE.
