---------------
1. WHAT'S THIS?
===============

    These fonts were converted from an archive of twenty- five 5.25" floppies,
    containing internal snapshots of font development done at IBM around 1984.

    The prototype fonts were designed specifically for a project codenamed
    Olympiad, which came to light a couple years later as the IBM 6150, AKA
    the RT PC, a RISC workstation and grandaddy of the PowerPC architecture.
    The type design work was evidently carried out in IBM's Austin, TX campus;
    the date stamps on the files range from Dec '83 to mid '85 - according to
    my source, this set of fonts took the team a year to deliver.

    In all, there are six complete fonts with a selection of 571 characters
    each (mapped to unicode in the .TTF versions):

    - Olympiad Austin (9x20 px)
    - Olympiad Austin Bold (9x20 px)
    - Olympiad Austin Italic (9x20 px)
    - Olympiad EGA (8x14 px)
    - Olympiad Micro (4x8 px)
    - Olympiad Title (18x40 px)

2. TECHNICAL
============

    The character selection doesn't conform to any standard code page (and
    doesn't even perfectly match the finalized specification in AIX 2.x, which
    was the RT PC's major operating system). I've mapped the glyphs to
    Unicode to the best of my abilities, although there were a few I couldn't
    find any match for, so they ended up in the Private Use Area. Consult
    your favorite character mapping program, I guess.

    Since every character from the good old DOS Codepage 437 makes an
    appearance, I've included versions with the CP437 mapping just for the
    hell of it. These are available in both TrueType (*_437TT) and .FON
    bitmap (*_437BM) formats.

    As for sizes: the .TTF metrics had to be adjusted for maximum cross-
    platform support and ease of use, so the size you'd have to select (in
    your OS or application) does not necessarily match the raw pixel
    dimensions of the bitmap font. That said, you'll definitely want to
    display them at the right size though, or you'll get ugly scaling
    artifacts.

    On my system, the sizes are 18pt for the Austin fonts, 12pt for EGA, 6pt
    for Micro, and 36pt for Title; your mileage may vary.
